Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Football

The last three days have flown by! Kev and Gemma have just taken off from Dulles and are on their way home, and Katie just returned from a week-long trip to Hawaii.

On Thanksgiving Kev and Gemma were amused (or horrified?!) greatly when they watched my dad and uncle deep fry our turkey. Many families have started frying their turkeys in recent years, but watching the process is quite the spectacle. Once all the food was prepared, me, my parents, Kev and Gemma, my sister Kristen, my grandmother, my uncle, and my uncle's friend sat down for a great dinner -- sweet potato casserole and mom's homemade cranberry sauce once again reigned supreme.

On Friday we attempted to avoid Black Friday shopping by hiking Humpback Rock, one of our favorite spots in the area. Unfortunately the path was covered in wet leaves, and despite my best efforts to protect my back, I slipped 3 times and really knocked it out of whack. Did I mention the wind threatened to blow us off the rock? Probably my least favorite visit there to date :-( However, the hike was helpful because it helped me feel *slightly* less guilty about consuming Thanksgiving leftovers for dinner, along with S'mores by a campfire in the backyard that night.

This morning none of us could quite believe that Gemma and Kev would have to leave! We didn't have to leave the house until 2pm, so we got to watch the first half of the UVA v. Tech game. I was AMAZED as the Hoos scored on the opening drive in dramatic fashion -- bringing in a player who usually plays defense and special teams to be our quarterback! We even went into the half up by a touchdown, but sadly we threw an interception instead of a TD pass with seconds to spare and we lost the big rivalry game by 3 points.

Thankfully I didn't have to say goodbye to Kev and Gemma at the airport. Instead, choruses of "see you in a month!" sounded as we hugged and looked forward to my upcoming trip to London (my 4th!!) for New Years.

Until my business trip to Orlando or London, cheers m'dears ♥
