A (snail mail) letter from Air Canada to me, sent July 9 and received July 21
On July 8th I posted saying that I was giving AC one last chance to respond to my formal complaint before taking it to both the appeals office and the ombudsman. As I had not heard from them since, I told myself today that I would draft a nice letter and send it by week's end. And then I get home after work and play practice to open the following:
Dear Ms. _____:
Thank you for your correspondence. We were sorry to learn that your baggage was not available for you in London on April 17, 2008. Please accept our sincere apologies.
-->Insert paragraph here saying they're not liable for heaps of stuff due to all the variables in travel.<--
-->Insert paragraph here stating that they would have reimbursed me up to $100 for clothes, but since I did not submit a receipt, there can be no monetary compensation. What I already told them is that my friends came to the rescue and I had no desire to claim $8 worth of new underwear. Hence, no receipt submitted.<--
As a gesture of our concern, I am enclosing a $500.00 travel voucher which may be used towards future travel on Air Canada within the next 12 months. This travel voucher has no refund value.
Once again, we offer our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you may have experienced. We trust that all your future travels with Air Canada will be completely satisfactory.
xoxo Sincerely,
HOORAH! I am ridiculously and pleasantly surprised. Now I just need to figure out how to use it! I'm tempted to save it in case some special travel plans for next summer come through (the voucher is valid until July 11), but who knows what next summer will bring. Hmm, New Years plans perhaps? Time to start daydreaming!

that's cool! wherever you end up going, though, maybe you'll want to pack lightly and carry everything on :)
