I didn't realize how much we had seen and done yesterday until I just jotted a few notes to help me organize my thoughts. Wow! And it wasn't rushed at all. The day had a great pace, and I think I'm the only one who wished we would have waked more O:-)
The day started off with a trip to Covent Garden. It was one of Katie's favorite areas last time, but we had somehow managed to only breeze through on our way elsewhere. This time we were one of the first people to be up and about and browsing in the little shops that fall one after another. I spotted a open-air tent market and decided to check out what the vendors had to offer. Nothing caught my eye until Katie spotted something interesting -- I won't tell for now, because we ended up going in together to get a present for someone back home O:-) Katie and I were comparing items and debating over options when the gentleman who owns the stand came over to start his dog and pony show. I was thinking that our American accents may not be any help in getting a good deal, and before I could say anything, Dave inquired about a price...a little more than I would have wanted to pay, but I figured that was just his starting price. The more we all talked, the more our different accents became apparent to the salesman. He looked at me with a smile. "Wait, you're an American?" I nodded. He ignores Katie and turns to Dave. "And you're British?" Dave nods. "Oooh, okay. How about £20 then?" And he gives Dave this big grin and knowing look and I'm trying to hold in the giggles. Can't wait for the recipient to see the gift!!
It was almost 11am, so we headed down to the Walkabout bar I mentioned in the last post. We were quite surprised to see that the tables were already full and nearly everyone in the place had a Queensland Maroons shirt on (woohoo!!!!). Eventually a few New South Wales fans showed up, but not a single one of them was sporting a Blues shirt. I somehow managed to leave my "Property of QLD" shirt at home, so I attempted to show my supprt with my new Virginia Tech rubgy shirt.
The game got underway, and Queensland started off with promise. However, NSW answered quickly, and the refs somehow managed to say they had scored when they in fact never grounded the ball. *Bah* After that, QLD struggled (much like U.Va. football...) by making a great run up the field, only to lose it *right* at the goal line. BUT, it didn't matter at all, because QLD *dominated* the second half and soundly beat NSW. Now if they can win the next game, the title will be theirs for the second year in a row :-) And I think I might have converted Dave to being a rugby league fan...at least when it comes to the State of Origin. We couldn't have asked for a better game.
Afterwards we ran an errand with Dave. He wanted a new tripod, and apparently we had to walk through "Don't look at people in the eyes" Soho. Dave would later repeat this advice in Camden, where I think it was much more necessary O:-) On our trip through Soho, we walked through Soho Square, a bit of green space in the middle of rows of buildings. Dave says it's normally not too crowded, but two consecutive days of brilliant weather brought everyone out from their homes and offices to have a picnic lunch.
Tripod in hand, we headed to Picadilly Circus and Fortnum and Mason, so Katie could pick up tea for her boyfriend's mom like we did on the last visit. Robin met up with us after a morning trip home to Croydon, and we were all tired and kind of at a loss of what to do next. With another perfectly nice sunny day handed to us, I suggested we head back to my favorite park, and we enjoyed another great visit :-)
Wow, we did walk a lot yesterday, even with taking the tube everywhere! From the park we walked to Trafalgar Square and snapped a few photos and people watched. At this point, we knew we had to head back to the flat to get ready for the concert, and kudos to KEV for somehow arriving before us ;-)
Kev, Gemma, Amy, Dave, Robin, Katie, and I tubed it to Camden and met up with Andi for dinner before the show. We were warned by several of them to to stick together and not look anyone in the eye, as this was the "red light district." One look around proved them right enough for me to listen :-)
The Envy Corps kicked things off at the The Roundhouse and were really good! Eventually the Editors made their way on stage for one of the shortest sets I've ever seen a main act play. Thankfully I knew a few of their songs from the tunes Andi had sent to me in the previous month, and the ones I didn't know were still good. Not a bad venue, but it was unbelieveably hot, and mid-way through (what, 4 songs?), we headed to the back to enjoy cooler air *and* a better view :-)
Now it's Thursday morning and we're all wiped out and having a slow start to the day :-) We'll see what shall come our way!
Cheers ♥

I must say that I'm chuckling about your comment about UVA's football struggling :)
Glad to hear that you didn't make too much eye contact, I hear that it can be quite dangerous... or at least that's what the blogs tell me :)
