The Green Traveler

¡Hola de Barcelona!

Nicole and I are sitting in the hostel, and we´re probably 2 of only 5 folks who are actually here at 10:40pm. We hear our roommates (all 8 of them!) have no plans to return to the hostel until 4am, so this ought to be an interesting week! And hey, don´t even ask me what we´re going to do next week when we share a room with 10 other people :-)

I called this post the "green traveler" not because Nicole and I are environmentally conscious (although we are to a typical extent) but because I almost felt like a complete newb to travel in the last 24 hours! Iberia didn´t tell us where our layover would be, so when we called prior to the flight we were told that 1) we were stopping in Madrid and 2) that we´d be on the same plane. Only the former rang true. Since our flight was delayed 1hr20min in DC, we arrived in Madrid with literally moments to spare to board the correct plane to Barcelona! When we arrived, we could not figure out which of 3 terminals to go to for baggage claim -- our flight had *multiple* codeshares and we were never told a single one of them. After asking several folks for help (one decided to laugh at us after we walked away!) we finally got the assistance we needed. And then when we headed towards customs, the signage was very confusing, so we had to once again ask for help, for which I believe we received at least one smirk. I promise, I am not new to traveling -- get your act together BCN!

On an outstanding note, MY BAG ARRIVED in one piece and on time :-)

My time on the computer is coming to a close, so I´ll end with a few bullets:
1) Team roles: I am the map reader/navigator and Nicole is the talker/negotiator.
2) We found the hostel easily. It´s not too bad based on my previous experiences.
3) We walked a lot in just a few short hours and already offered directions to some tourists -- lost folks from Kansas who pounced on us when they passed by and heard us talking.

Bed time for me -- I actually slept on the plane but can´t wait to crash :-)
