Day 4 in Brisbane

(Day 3 has been updated, so go back a post if you'd like before reading this one!)

Guess what -- it didn't rain today!!! Well, it sprinkled a bit this morning on my walk, but by the time I returned to the hostel, it had cleared up, and the sun was shining :-)

Col and his wife picked me up and took me through Canungra to O'Reillys and the Lamington National Park. The drive was absolutely spectacular. We left the city, headed out into bush country, and then eventually we were in the rainforest territory. Once you pass Canungra and head up the mountain, you twist and turn around countless blind curves for at least 30km, and the views of the valleys and mountains kept my attention the entire time.

When we arrived at the O'Reillys territory, property owned by the family within the national park, we grabbed a quick bite to eat to warm us up (I hadn't been that cold since arriving in OZ!) -- I had pumpkin and veggie lasagna and most of the chips (french fries) they served with it -- negating the healthy with the not so healthy ;-)

Col and I headed into the Tree Top Walk suggested by Donna back in Virginia, and I got a couple of nice photos :-) We walked around a bit more, and I fell in love with the area. Next time I come to Australia, I'm going to be in the country for a *very* long time, and at least a week will be spent in the Lamington National Park. I'll camp at the grounds at O'Reillys and use each day to explore a new trail.

Next we drove to Tamborine Mountain, which had some more beautiful views :-). The highlight was Gallery Walk, a stretch of road with shop after shop featuring arts, crafts, and unique items. After walking through a number of shops, I couldn't get this one particular scarf out of my mind, so I went back to purchase it. That makes my 3rd one since I've been in Australia (4th if you count the $1.99 one I bought the first day to keep me somewhat warm), so Col and his wife have pegged me as a scarf collector :-). We drove back to Brisbane after that, and here I am at the hostel. I'll probably just walk to Queen St. Mall to wake myself up a bit and then get a good night's sleep. Tomorrow is going to be an interesting day :-)

Cheers!
