Day 2 in Brisbane, Part 2

After getting cleaned up, Peter met Martin and I at the hostel, and we headed down to the food court at Queen Street Mall for some dinner. I found a Sumo Salad, so you know I was happy :-)

While we were sitting at a table, I could see a man standing right behind me out of the corner of my eye. When he didn't move for a good 10-15 seconds, I turned around and he asked, "Are you from the states?" I guess he heard me talking...so I replied and he started talking about how he's been through Virginia before. When he learned Martin was from Quebec, he was so excited because he's originally from Quebec but married to an Aussie and living here now. He started speaking to Martin in French, and he wouldn't stop!! Most of you know I can talk *a lot* without pause, but this man has me beat in a way I can't even describe. When he switched back to English, he talked on and on and on and repeated himself. Martin and I kept sneaking smiles at one another, both of us trying to figure out how to politely end the lecture on Quebec and its marvels. Finally Martin said that we needed to go to Coles since it closed in a few minutes, so that got us off the hook. This man has a family, so I doubt he was lonely, but perhaps homesick, and he definitely had a few drinks in him.

Martin and I headed back to the hostel with our goodies from Coles and watched some TV and talked until we both turned in for the night. We figured it was the last time we'd see each other so we said goodbye, but you'll see that's not the case!

Cheers!

  • I can be chatty at times, a lot more after a few drinks though! We'll see how I am at New Years ;-) I've been reading through all your logs, it sounds like you're having a great time!
